Started in 2002, the Rock River Canoe Company has evolved from a few rental boats and a strongback, to a boat-building operation on Main Street in Fort Atkinson.  In the shop you'll find a line of paddling and outdoor gear, and of course boat-building materials. The owner Kim Grunow says that their focus is on sharing the experience of building a wooden boat, and using it.  Rock River Canoe is an active boat-building shop so visitors will have to pardon the dust, a by-product of the craft. At any given time there might be 6 to 8 boats in various stages of construction.  The builders will be more than happy to offer you a cup of tea or coffee and spend some time explaining the process.
